Governor Bassey Otu has said the massive turnout at the All Progressives Congress convention in Abuja reflects rising momentum for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking with journalists at the venue, Otu described the large participation and enthusiasm among party members as evidence of a strengthening political base for the President ahead of the next general elections.
He noted that the atmosphere at the convention goes beyond party solidarity, pointing instead to what he called a broader national alignment with Tinubu’s leadership. According to the governor, the event underscored unity, stability and confidence in the administration’s direction.
Otu added that the convention marked a significant moment in the country’s democratic process, suggesting that the turnout reflects public approval of the government’s performance so far. He expressed confidence that the level of support witnessed would translate into electoral success for the President.
The governor also said the administration’s achievements within a relatively short period have contributed to the growing backing within party ranks. He described the convention as a platform that has helped consolidate party structures and strengthen loyalty across the country.
Highlighting Cross River State’s presence, Otu said the delegation demonstrated strong support for the President, noting that key stakeholders from different generations of leadership in the state attended the event in solidarity.
In a similar vein, former Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade, said the success of the convention reflects the internal cohesion of the APC and positions it well for future elections.
Ayade commended the consensus approach adopted in selecting party leaders, describing it as a strategy that promotes unity and strengthens the party’s structure. He said the level of agreement reached among stakeholders shows a shared commitment to the party’s progress.
He also pointed to the working relationship between himself and Governor Otu as an example of political harmony, noting that their cooperation reinforces the state’s support for the President.
Both leaders maintained that the convention has strengthened the ruling party and signalled its readiness to retain power in the next electoral cycle.
