Couple Who Returned To Uganda After 30 Years In Switzerland Brutally Murdered

Police in Uganda have launched a full-scale investigation into the gruesome murder of an elderly couple, believed to be victims of an aggravated robbery at their residence in Lugonjo, Nakiwogo Cell, Kiwafu Ward, Division ‘A’, Entebbe Municipality.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, officers from Entebbe Police Station responded to an emergency call and found the lifeless bodies of David Mutaaga (69) and Deborah Florence Mutaaga (62), both bearing multiple stab wounds.

The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the quiet lakeside community, is being treated as a double homicide likely connected to a violent break-in.

“The victims were found inside their home with deep stab wounds. Initial assessments suggest the attackers may have used sharp objects and possibly gained access with the intent to rob,” SSP Onyango said in a statement issued Monday.

Police recorded statements from multiple witnesses at the scene, including the informant Ronald Golooba, a close family acquaintance; the housemaid Daphine Naudo, who is said to have discovered the bodies; and several neighbors who reported unusual movements and noises during the night.

Crime scene investigators processed the house and collected evidence for forensic analysis, including fingerprints, blood samples, and household items that may have been used or tampered with during the attack.

The bodies were transferred to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause and timing of death.

Investigators are now piecing together the couple’s last known movements, reviewing neighborhood CCTV footage, and interviewing more residents for leads on potential suspects.

While no arrests have been made, SSP Onyango confirmed that police are pursuing “all available leads” and urged anyone with information to come forward.

The murder comes amid growing concerns over violent crime in peri-urban areas surrounding Kampala and Entebbe.

According to police crime statistics, Entebbe Municipality has recorded 11 homicide cases so far in 2025, a sharp rise compared to the same period last year.

Kampala Metropolitan Police region has registered 94 murder cases this year, with 21 attributed to aggravated robbery.

Local leaders and residents have called for increased night patrols, community policing, and installation of security cameras in high-risk areas.

“This is a tragic loss to the community,” said a neighbor who requested anonymity.

“The couple was known to be peaceful and generous. We are living in fear, and we want justice.”
