Court Suspends Adamawa ADC Congress as Binani, Babachir Clash

A federal High Court sitting in Yola, Adamawa State has suspended the state congress of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) over what is believed to be as a result of the tussle between former Secretary to the Government of the Federation David Babachir Lawan and Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani.

The Congress committee of the African Democratic Congress party however said that the party’s Congress for polling units, wards and local government is ongoing in Adamawa state.

Chairman of the Congress, General Ishaya Bauka disclosed the development at a press conference in Yola Thursday stressing that the speculation being peddles of a court order halting the process remains an academic exercise.

Justice Ahmed Isah of High court No.6 issued the order restraining the exercise pending the determination of the matter before the court and adjourned the case to 15th April.2026 for continuation of hearing.

The suit was filed by the state chairman of the party, Comrade Shehu Yuhanna, against the state transition committee led by Barrister Sadiq Dasin, over alleged exclusion from the congress planning process.

The ADC in Adamawa has ben engulfed in crisis since the defection of prominent leaders of the prominent politicians into the party

Babachir is believed to favour Mustapha Arabi as state chairman instead of Comrade Shehu Yohanna who has been holding the position. This led to a legal tussle to establish the true leadership of the party.

A transition caretaker committee led by Barr Sadiq Dasin was constituted to run the affairs of the party but Umar Bello Jada, who is also a member of the National Working Committee,NWC of the ADC and a critical supporter of Senator Binani formed another a parallel leadership under Sai’du Komsiri to checkmate the Dasin led committee loyal to Babachir.

With three parallel sets claiming leadership of the party in the state, Shehu Yohanna went to court challenging both the Komsiri and Dasin executive committees.
