Covenant University Celebrates Milestone as Alumna Becomes First Graduate to Attain Professorship

By Omonu YG Nelson

Otta, Nigeria – Covenant University marked a significant milestone in its 22-year history as Dr. (Mrs.) Aderonke Atinuke Oni, a member of the pioneering class of 2006, became the first alumnus to achieve the rank of full professor.

Professor Oni, who graduated with a degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), was among 15 faculty members promoted to the professorial cadre, including 10 full professors and five associate professors. The promotions were announced by Vice-Chancellor Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, following approval by the University’s Board of Regents.

Chancellor Dr. David Oyedepo congratulated the new professors, urging them to maintain their drive for success and remain committed to learning, research, and providing solutions. “Biography centers on value added. Anyone who stops learning is old. Anyone who keeps learning is young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young. New findings refresh people,” he advised.

Professor Oni, who joined the faculty in 2007, expressed gratitude to God and the University for the opportunity to grow and thrive. She prayed for the grace to work harder and make a more significant impact in the future.

Vice-Chancellor Adebayo encouraged the professors to leverage the University’s annual N1 billion research grant to engage in cutting-edge research and create real-life solutions. “Avoid complacency and strive for greater accomplishments,” he urged, assuring them of management support in their future teaching and research endeavors.

This milestone marks a significant achievement for Covenant University, which was licensed in January 2002. The University continues to prioritize research, innovation, and academic excellence, empowering its faculty and students to make a meaningful impact in their fields.
