A notable indigene of Obubra, Barr. John Ifeanyi Ebokpo, has launched the construction of the 0.5 km Ogerege Road at Mile 1, Obubra Urban, marking a major step toward easing rural mobility and boosting agricultural activities in the area.
The project, which targets farmers and local traders, is expected to improve access to markets, reduce transportation challenges and enhance the economic prospects of the community.
Addressing the gathering on Friday, Ebokpo explained that the initiative was driven by the hardship farmers endure while moving their produce to nearby markets.
He noted that accessible rural roads remain central to increasing productivity, expanding trade and improving the living conditions of rural dwellers.
Ebokpo expressed confidence that the new road will open fresh economic opportunities and reduce the stress associated with transporting goods.
Speaking,Hon. Ovat Dickson Agbor, Member representing Obubra I in the Cross River State House of Assembly, commended Ebokpo for prioritizing the welfare of his people. He described the project as a practical demonstration of community oriented leadership with the potential to stimulate commercial activities in the area.
In his reaction, a former Minority Leader of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Chief Alex Irek, applauded the intervention, noting that it showcases the vital role of private sector support in community development.
He said the road will significantly improve the daily experiences of farmers and traders.
Also speaking, Chief Ernest Irek, former member of the House of Representatives, lauded the initiative as proof of Ebokpo’s sincere commitment to grassroots progress.
Irek encouraged other well meaning individuals to support community driven development efforts.
The Vice Chairman of Obubra Local Government, Hon. Leonard Ogwa, described the project as a milestone for the council, noting that it will enhance movement, strengthen rural trade and improve living standards across the area.
Residents who witnessed the flag off expressed gratitude to Ebokpo, calling the project timely, necessary and critical to the community’s economic survival.
Dr. John Ifeanyi Ebokpo is a global trade expert, legal practitioner and philanthropist with extensive experience in international business, human rights and corporate advisory.
He heads the law firm Ebokpo, Adedayo and Co., serves on the boards of several companies in Nigeria and Europe and is the Secretary General of the Africa Bulgaria Business Council. He is also the founder of the JARE Foundation and has handled numerous pro bono human rights cases, particularly those focused on protecting the girl child.
Ebokpo also holds multiple legal qualifications, an honorary doctorate and advanced certifications from leading global institutions, and regularly contributes to professional discourses.
