C’River: Jarigbe Interfaces with Assembly Ahead of Mass Exodus to APC

By Abasi Ita

Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe has intensified consultations with key political actors in Cross River State as preparations heighten for his formal entry into the All Progressives Congress.

The Senator representing Cross River North met with the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, and the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Sylvester Agabi, at their residence in Calabar as part of ongoing engagements with influential stakeholders.

The meeting is one of a series of strategic consultations that began in Abuja, aimed at harmonising interests, deepening understanding, and securing the buy-in of political leaders as the Senator finalises his move to the ruling party.

He was accompanied by prominent political figures including Chief Timmy Tom, Chief Austin Edibe, Mr Jimmie Aninege, and other leaders. Senator Jarigbe also held discussions with members of the State Assembly from Cross River North. Lawmakers present included Hon. Pius Ashakia, Hon. Omang Charles Omang, Hon. Martins Achadu, Hon. Brian Odey, and Hon. Thomas Aruku.

Senator Jarigbe has confirmed his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party to join the APC. He has also formally notified the state party leader, Governor Bassey Otu, and the APC State Chairman, Alphonsus Eba. According to him, the decision aligns with his commitment to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Otu, as well as strengthen the party’s structure ahead of future elections.

The Speaker and Deputy Speaker received the Senator warmly and encouraged him to broaden his consultations across the state in order to build a united and cohesive political front anchored on peace, love, and unity.

Political observers say Senator Jarigbe’s planned move is already triggering a wave of defections in Cross River North, with loyalists and other stakeholders expected to follow him into the APC. The development, they argue, could significantly weaken the PDP’s influence in the district and further consolidate the ruling party’s dominance in the state.
