The Cross River State Police Command has honoured fallen officers by presenting cheques to their families in recognition of their sacrifice in the line of duty.
The presentation, which took place yesterday April 2, 2026, formed part of activities marking National Police Day and the ongoing Police Week celebrations across the country, a period dedicated to recognising the service and sacrifices of police personnel and strengthening public appreciation for their role in maintaining law and order.
The Commissioner of Police, Rashid B. Afegbua, presented the cheques on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
A total of seventeen families of deceased officers benefited from the exercise, with a cumulative disbursement of ₦9,572,581.71 under the Group Life Assurance and the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme.
The Commissioner described the gesture as a reflection of the police leadership’s commitment to the welfare of serving officers and the families of those who lost their lives in active service. He noted that the support underscores institutional appreciation for the sacrifices made by officers in protecting lives and property.
The event, which took place at the Command Headquarters in Calabar, was attended by members of the Command Management Team.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of officers and the families of those who paid the ultimate price, pledging continued support under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police.
Police authorities further stressed that the initiative aligns with nationwide efforts during Police Week to boost morale within the force and strengthen trust between the police and the public.
