The United States has received over two million barrels of aviation fuel from Nigeria’s Dangote refinery in March, marking a major milestone in global fuel trade.
The shipments reinforce the refinery’s growing reputation as a key supplier in the international market.
Ship-tracking data from Kpler shows that six vessels carrying around 1.7 million barrels of jet fuel from the Dangote refinery have already reached US ports. Another shipment, aboard the Hafnia Andromeda, is expected to deliver an additional 348,000 barrels to the Everglades terminal on March 29.
With a processing capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, the Dangote refinery has emerged as a major player in the global energy sector. Its increasing exports are reshaping fuel supply patterns, making it a significant supplier in the Atlantic Basin. The refinery has already demonstrated its ability to compete with European refiners in gasoline exports, and its entry into the US market could challenge domestic fuel producers.
This development follows earlier shipments of approximately 130 million liters of jet fuel from the refinery to Saudi Arabia. The growing list of international buyers signals a shift in the global fuel trade, with Nigeria now playing a more influential role.
Economist Muda Yusuf described the refinery’s success as a proud moment for Nigeria. He emphasized that the refinery’s ability to meet the high standards required by US regulators highlights the quality of its products and strengthens global trust in Nigerian exports.
As the refinery continues to expand its reach, industry experts predict it could become a dominant force in fuel supply across multiple continents.
