A powerful explosion struck a four-story building in the Al-Raml Al-Janoubi neighborhood of Latakia, northwestern Syria, on Saturday, claiming the lives of at least four people and injuring nine others.
The incident was reported by the state news agency SANA.
Emergency teams quickly arrived at the scene, transporting the victims to nearby hospitals. Among the injured were four children who are now in stable condition, while five adults sustained moderate injuries.
Authorities revealed that the explosion occurred when an individual attempted to dismantle war remnants inside a scrap shop located within the building.
The tragic event highlights the lingering dangers posed by unexploded ordnance in war-torn areas, which continue to threaten civilian lives even after active conflict has subsided.
