Deji Adeyanju Commends Gov Fubara’s Commitment to Rule of Law, Urges Him to Prioritise Rivers People’s Welfare
A prominent human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State for his exemplary commitment to upholding the rule of law.
Specifically, Adeyanju praised Fubara’s decisive action in obeying the recent Supreme Court ruling on local government administration in Rivers State.
By directing the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to conduct fresh elections for the local government councils, Fubara has demonstrated a rare commitment to constitutional order and democratic principles.
This move is seen as a important step forward in ensuring that the local government administration in Rivers State is in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.
Furthermore, Adeyanju commended Fubara’s instruction for outgoing local government chairmen to hand over power by Monday, March 3, 2025. This directive is seen as a bold and commendable step forward, as it ensures a smooth transition of power and prevents any potential disruptions in the administration of the local government councils.
Adeyanju urged Fubara to prioritise the welfare of Rivers people amidst the distractions and political turbulence that may arise. He emphasized that the governor’s leadership is a beacon of hope for the people of Rivers State and that Nigerians across the country are rooting for him to succeed.
In his statement, Adeyanju also took a swipe at former Governor Nyesom Wike, accusing him of being the “black sheep” of the Rivers family. He advised Fubara to deal decisively with Wike, ensuring that he understands that Rivers State is not his personal fiefdom. This, Adeyanju believes, is necessary to prevent Wike from undermining the progress of Rivers State.
He expressed confidence that Fubara will emerge stronger in 2027, equipped to crush any opposition, particularly from Wike, in the interest of all Rivers people. He urged Fubara to remain steadfast, focused, and resolute in his mission to serve and uplift the people of Rivers State.
