The Egrangbene Autonomous Communities in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State have confirmed the passing of their Pere-elect, Henry Ambakederemo Okrikpa, also known as the Egbine-Agbe, Daufa I of the proposed Egrangbene Kingdom.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Okruzi of the communities, Chief Felix Krokeme Maku, and made available to journalists in Warri on Wednesday. According to the statement, the Pere-elect died at the age of 70. He is survived by three children, grandchildren, and several relatives who are now in mourning.
Following his death, the communities have declared a period of general mourning as they prepare for his burial. Details of the funeral arrangements will be officially announced at a later date by the Regent of the proposed Egrangbene Kingdom, Chief Oboye Omonibeke.
It would be recalled that Okrikpa’s emergence as king on September 16, 2009, sparked a prolonged kingship dispute within the community. Despite his election and coronation, his position was not formally recognized by the Delta State Government due to controversies surrounding his selection.
After battling illness for some time, the Pere-elect has now passed on.
