Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged political leaders in Nigeria to set aside rivalry and work together in the interest of national development.
He made the appeal on Friday during the funeral mass of former senator, Peter Nwaoboshi, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Ibusa.
Addressing the congregation, the governor described public office as a sacred responsibility entrusted to leaders by God and the people. According to him, the passing of the late lawmaker should remind those in authority that power is temporary, but service and legacy endure.
“Leadership positions will come and go, but what will remain is the impact we make in the lives of the people,” he said, calling on office holders to govern with humility and mutual respect.
Oborevwori stressed that meaningful progress can only thrive in an atmosphere of unity and cooperation. He warned that political division weakens the country’s moral and democratic foundations, insisting that national interest must always take precedence over personal ambition.
He assured residents of Delta State that his administration would continue to pursue inclusive policies and responsible governance aimed at improving lives.
Offering words of comfort to the family of the deceased, the governor said Nwaoboshi’s name should remain a source of pride, adding that his contributions to Delta State and Nigeria would not be forgotten. He described the late senator as a bridge-builder who strengthened democratic governance beyond party lines.
Quoting John 11:25, Oborevwori spoke of the Christian hope of resurrection and encouraged leaders to renew their commitment to courage, effective representation and dedicated service.
