At least 67 Palestinians have been killed in northern Gaza while trying to access humanitarian aid, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
The deaths occurred near a United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) convoy that had just crossed into Gaza from Israel.
The WFP said the 25-truck convoy was met by large crowds and came under fire shortly after passing through checkpoints.
The Israeli military confirmed firing what it described as warning shots to manage what it called an immediate threat but disputed the number of fatalities reported.
Local officials have reported that hundreds of people, already weak from hunger, had gathered in desperation to receive food.
Gaza’s health ministry also reported 18 deaths in the last 24 hours linked directly to starvation.
Many injured and deceased were taken to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, which staff say is under extreme pressure.
People at the hospital described dire conditions, with entire families suffering from severe hunger.
The civil defense agency later updated the death toll, stating that 93 people had been killed by Israeli fire across Gaza on the same day, including 80 in the north, nine in Rafah, and four in Khan Younis.
Some of the attacks occurred near distribution sites linked to the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a group supported by the U.S. and Israel that uses private security to deliver aid.
Other attacks targeted areas where UN aid was being delivered. Reports from the scene described chaos, overcrowding, and live fire directed at civilians.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army has issued evacuation orders for Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, an area that has not seen a ground offensive during the 21-month conflict.
Leaflets were dropped warning residents to move toward the coastal zone of al-Mawasi. The region is heavily populated with displaced people living in makeshift shelters.
The military says it suspects hostages may be held in the area and has launched airstrikes but not yet sent in troops.
Gaza has seen widespread hunger, with the WFP reporting over 90,000 women and children in urgent need of nutrition support.
Over 58,000 people have been killed since the start of the war in October 2023, according to Gaza health authorities.
