Cross River State Governor, Bassey Edet Otu, has called on Christians to embrace hope and unity as they celebrate Easter, urging them to reflect on the spiritual significance of the season.
In a goodwill message issued through his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Linus Obogo, the governor extended warm felicitations to Christians across Cross River State and Nigeria, marking the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Governor Otu described Easter as the crowning glory of the Christian faith and a timeless symbol of hope, redemption, sacrifice and the triumph of light over darkness.
He noted that the journey from the crucifixion on Good Friday to the resurrection on Easter Sunday carries a profound message of renewal, stressing that even in times of adversity, hope remains possible through faith and perseverance.
“Easter reminds us that after every season of sacrifice comes the dawn of renewal,” he said. “It is the eternal testimony that faith, love and righteousness will always prevail over trials and tribulations.”
The governor commended Christians for their devotion during the Lenten season and urged them to reflect the virtues of humility, sacrifice, forgiveness and compassion in their daily lives.
“Christ’s resurrection is the greatest message of hope known to humanity,” he added. “It calls on all of us to rise above bitterness, division and despair, and to embrace unity, peace and love as the enduring pillars of our collective progress.”
He further stressed that Easter presents an opportunity for Nigerians to reaffirm their commitment to national unity, peaceful coexistence and shared responsibility in building a stronger society.
“As we celebrate this sacred season, let us remember that the spirit of Easter compels us to be our brother’s keeper, to uplift the downtrodden and to extend kindness to those who need it most,” he said.
Governor Otu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to policies and programmes that promote social harmony, economic growth and inclusive development for all residents of Cross River State, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences.
He urged Christians to celebrate Easter with gratitude, moderation and generosity, while praying that the blessings of the season bring renewed hope, peace and prosperity to Cross River State and the nation.
