Easter: Zone 5 AIG Urges Residents to Report Suspicious Activities

By Deborah Coker

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 5, Benin, Mr Salma-Dogo Garba, has assured residents of adequate security measures for a peaceful Easter celebration in the zone.

Garba gave the assurance in his Easter message to Christians across the zone comprises Edo and Delta.

This is contained in a statement by SP Tijani Momoh, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in charge of the zone, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Abuja on Saturday.

Garba urged all residents to embrace the virtues of love, sacrifice, peace, and unity which the Easter season symbolised.

He also called on residents to use the period for reflection, tolerance, and harmonious coexistence in their various communities.

The AIG assured residents and members of the public that comprehensive security arrangements had been put in place across Delta and Edo.

According to him, this is in line with the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, and the directives of the Inspector-General of Police (I-GP) Olatunji Disu, to all Commissioners of Police and their supervisory AIGs to ensure the safety of lives and property.

“These measures include increased visibility patrols, strategic deployment of personnel to highways, link ways, motor parks, recreational centers, and surveillance operations in public spaces.

“Others include intelligence-led policing, stop-and-search duties and collaboration with other security agencies to guarantee a peaceful and hitch-free celebration.”

He enjoined the public to remain law-abiding, vigilant, cooperative with the police and to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or relevant security agencies.

While wishing all Christian faithful a joyous and peaceful Easter celebration, Garba reiterated the unwavering commitment of the zone to maintaining law and order before, during, and after the festivities.
