Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has praised the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army for its sustained combat readiness and efforts in tackling security challenges across the state.
The commendation was made on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, when the leadership of the NUJ paid a courtesy visit to the Brigade Headquarters in Benin City.
Speaking during the visit, the Edo NUJ Chairman, Dr. Festus Alenkhe, said the union had carefully observed the Brigade’s operations since the current commander assumed office. He noted that the relative peace and improved security currently enjoyed by residents reflect the Army’s proactive strategies and constant operational preparedness.
According to him, the Brigade’s consistent security operations have contributed greatly to strengthening internal security in Edo State. He stressed that collaboration between the military and the media is essential for effective information management and the overall protection of national security.
Dr. Alenkhe added that the visible improvements in peace and stability across the state underscore the impact of the Brigade’s efforts, noting that responsible journalism plays an important role in building public confidence and supporting security initiatives.
In his response, the Commander of the 4 Brigade, Brigadier General Ebenezer Oduyebo Balogun, described the NUJ’s visit as strategic and commendable. He acknowledged the media as a key stakeholder in shaping public perception and enhancing security communication.
The commander assured the union of the Brigade’s willingness to maintain a strong working relationship with the media, emphasising that closer cooperation would help reduce misinformation, encourage professionalism, and promote accurate reporting of military operations.
He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to promoting peace and ensuring responsible dissemination of information in Edo State.
In a statement issued by the Brigade’s spokesperson, Captain Kennedy Anyanwu, both the Nigerian Army and the NUJ pledged to sustain their cordial relationship. The statement noted that such partnerships are vital in today’s security climate, where public trust and credible information are crucial to operational success.
