The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has come out to deny reports that former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is in their custody.
According to information scooped by SUMMIT POST from the official Facebook page of the anti-graft agency, “Bello remains wanted for alleged N80.2 billion money laundering charges, with a subsisting warrant for his arrest still in place ¹.
The EFCC had previously declared Bello wanted in connection with the alleged money laundering offenses ². The commission had obtained a warrant of arrest against him, but their attempt to execute it was met with resistance, with the current Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, allegedly spiriting Bello away in his official vehicle ¹.
The EFCC had planned to arraign Bello on April 18, 2024, alongside three other suspects, on 19-count charges bordering on money laundering ¹. However, Bello’s whereabouts remain unknown, and the EFCC is still seeking his arrest.
As stated by the EFCC, “Bello is not above the law and would be brought to justice as soon as possible” ¹. The commission remains committed to ensuring that justice is served, and Bello faces the charges against him.
