Women entrepreneurs in Cross River South Senatorial District have commenced a five day skill acquisition programme facilitated by the Senator representing the district, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, in partnership with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).
Speaking at the opening session, Prince Charles Ekanem who represented Senator Ekpenyong said the initiative was designed to empower women with the knowledge and resources required to grow their businesses and strengthen start up ventures. He assured participants that the programme will be sustained to enable beneficiaries access grants and the needed support to compete favourably at national and global levels.
Mrs Umoh Boniface Udo expressed appreciation to Senator Ekpenyong for his commitment to women empowerment. She encouraged participants to take the training seriously in order to maximise the benefits for personal and community development.
The five day programme which continues on Wednesday at Pyramid Hotel in Calabar will provide business support, mentorship and financial empowerment to women with existing enterprises as well as start ups. It is expected to enhance skills, promote self reliance and expand the economic participation of women in Cross River South.
