Concerned Christian Youths Protest Over Attacks on Christianity, Faith Leaders In Nigeria, Commends Government On Forest Guards Initiative

The Concerned Christian Youth Forum has raised concerns over what it describes as “unwarranted attacks on Christianity and its leaders” in Nigeria.

The group, led by Adama Paul James, held a peaceful rally in Abuja, tagged ‘Enough is Enough,’ to call attention to the growing wave of defamation and hate speech targeted at the Christian faith.

“We will not stand idly by, while our faith and leaders are under siege, but we will remain steadfast in our resolve to promote peace, tolerance, and national cohesion,” James said. The group specifically named Omoyele Sowore and unnamed collaborators as central figures in the alleged attacks.

The Forum urged the government to take urgent action to protect religious freedom and uphold democratic values. “We call on the government, media, and citizens to recognize and address this trend,” James emphasised. The group believes that these attacks are not only targeted at Christianity but also threaten the fabric of Nigeria’s diverse society.

In a show of appreciation, the Forum commended the Federal Government for establishing the Forest Guard initiative, aimed at combating insecurity in rural areas. “The Forest Guard is a timely and welcome development,” James said. “We believe it will enhance security and provide a buffer against those who terrorize our communities from hiding places in the forests.”

The group, however, urged the government to ensure the guards are adequately trained, equipped, and supported to effectively carry out their duties. They also acknowledged the dedication of Nigeria’s security agencies, encouraging them to intensify efforts to end violence and restore peace across the nation.

The Concerned Christian Youth Forum reiterated its commitment to unity, peace, and collaboration, urging all Nigerians to stand together against hatred and division. James emphasized that the group’s stance is not one of confrontation but of peaceful advocacy for the protection of their rights and freedoms.

The Forum’s call for action underscores the need for a balanced approach to addressing religious tensions and promoting national cohesion in Nigeria. As the country navigates its complex religious landscape, voices like that of the Concerned Christian Youth Forum highlight the importance of dialogue and mutual respect in fostering a harmonious society.
