Fallen IDF soldier Oz Daniel laid to rest after his body returns from Hamas captivity – Oz Daniel served in an armored unit and was among the soldiers defending the White House outpost near Kibbutz Nir Oz when Hamas launched its surprise attack on Oct. 7.
He was stationed there with his tank crew — Omer Neutra, Nimrod Cohen and Shaked Dahan — when the fighting began. According to the IDF, the tank malfunctioned early in the battle and was hit soon after. A photo of the burning tank later circulated on Hamas-affiliated social media accounts; it was the only tank from which the entire crew was abducted.
Oz Daniel managed to escape the disabled vehicle alive and fought his captors until his final moments, the military said. About four months after he was taken into Gaza, he was declared dead, following 141 days during which his fate remained unknown. He is survived by his parents and his twin sister, Hadar.
