The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday, September 16, 2024, a public holiday to commemorate the celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
“The Federal Government congratulates the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and all over the world on this occasion,” said Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior. “We urge the Muslim Ummah and all Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of patience, sacrifice, and resilience.”
Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, made the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government.
The Minister also implored Muslims to use the opportunity to pray for enduring peace and a more prosperous egalitarian nation. “Let us pray for peace, prosperity, and unity in our country,” he said.
This declaration comes as a welcome announcement to Nigerian Muslims, who will now have a day off to celebrate the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
