A fire incident occurred at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery on Wednesday, affecting a section of the facility. However, swift action contained the damage, and operations continue uninterrupted.
According to Anthony Chiejina, spokesperson for Dangote Industries Limited, the incident occurred at the effluent treatment plant (ETP), a wastewater treatment method designed to purify industrial wastewater for safe release into the environment.
In a statement, Chiejina reassured that the situation was under control, saying, “We have swiftly contained a minor fire incident at our effluent treatment plant (ETP), today, Wednesday, 26th of June. There is no cause for alarm as the refinery is operating, and there is no recorded injury or body harm to all our staff on duty.”
This incident comes just over six months after the refinery’s inauguration by former President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2023. The 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) capacity refinery began production of diesel and aviation fuel on January 12.
The prompt response and containment of the fire avert any significant disruption to the refinery’s operations, ensuring continued production and supply of petroleum products.
