The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has exceeded its 2024 revenue target, collecting a record-breaking N21.6 trillion, the agency’s Executive Chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, has revealed.
Speaking at the 2025 strategic management retreat in Abuja on Thursday, Dr. Adedeji described the achievement as a milestone in the history of Nigeria’s tax administration.
The agency had set a target of N19.4 trillion for 2024 but exceeded expectations through what he called “resilience, professionalism, and dedication.”
“Our work enables the delivery of critical infrastructure, social services, and opportunities that transform lives,” he said.
“We are not just staff members; we are agents of the nation, entrusted with a responsibility that goes far beyond the walls of this organization.”
New Targets for 2025
Looking ahead, Dr. Adedeji disclosed that FIRS is now aiming to collect N25.2 trillion in revenue for 2025.
He emphasized that the agency would focus on technology-driven innovations to enhance efficiency and improve tax collection processes.
“Technology will drive FIRS transformation in 2025 by expanding integrated tax administration systems, unifying national platforms on collection, leveraging emerging technologies, and enhancing taxpayer-facing platforms,” he explained.
With its ambitious new target, FIRS is positioning itself for what Dr. Adedeji described as a “year of action, impact, and unparalleled excellence.”
