Mia Love, the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress as a Republican, has passed away at the age of 49.
Her family confirmed that she died peacefully at home on Sunday after battling an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Love made history in 2015 when she was elected to represent Utah’s 4th Congressional District, serving until 2019. She was known for her trailblazing role in the Republican Party, advocating for conservative values while breaking racial and gender barriers in politics.
