ABUJA-JULY 27, 2025 The Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra Sector Command, has reported that an accident along Nnewi-Okigwe Road at Amichi, resulted in five deaths on Friday night.

The Sector Commander, Joyce Alexander, confirmed the incident to journalists on Saturday in Awka, attributing the accident to brake failure.

Ms Alexander said the crash involved a Mercedes-Benz truck with registration number NNE893ZG, a Honda motorcycle and a Qlink motorcycle.

She said that eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the truck was traveling at high speed, failed brake and collided with other vehicles and pedestrians.

She stated, “A total of 10 individuals were involved in the crash—four male adults, a female adult, three male children and two female children, were involved in the incident. Five persons including two men and three children were confirmed dead, while five others sustained injuries. The FRSC rescue team arrived at the crash scene within 31 minutes after they received the call this morning. The team managed traffic control at the crash site and searched the hospitals where the victims were taken.’’

Ms Alexander reported that six people were taken to the Anglican Diocesan Hospital in Amichi; three were dead on arrival, one died later, and two were responding to treatment.

At Pat Angelina Hospital in Amichi, four were admitted with injuries; one man died, while the others are recovering.

The sector commander offered condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized the importance of road safety.

“This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the necessity to obey traffic rules and regulations. Vehicles should be well maintained to prevent malfunctioning that invariably leads to crashes. We urge all road users to exercise caution and patience while driving to prevent such incidents in the future,” she said
