Former Governor of Taraba State, Rev. Jolly Nyame has urged his supporters to refrain from participating in the planned nationwide protest against the government.
Nyame made this appeal on Sunday in Jalingo, while addressing the Yorro community from Taraba and Adamawa.
He acknowledged the country’s challenges, including food, education, and healthcare shortages, but warned that protests could lead to more harm than good. He cited examples from Kenya and other parts of the world where similar protests resulted in a breakdown of law and order, causing further hardship.
Nyame emphasised the importance of examining individual contributions to the situation and exploring constitutional means of addressing grievances. He stated, “There is already a Constitutional means of removing a bad Government through the ballot box and not brigandage and terrorism.”
Nyame praised the Yorro Nation for their peaceful and hardworking nature, engaged in noble livelihoods like farming, and urged them to maintain their peaceful stance, saying, “We have no time to waste in a National protest that can only promote destruction, anarchy, and loss of lives.”
He concluded, “As a peaceful and law-abiding community, the Yorro Nation should not join the so-called Nationwide protest against the Government, for our own good and the safety of the communities.”
