Andriy Parubiy, a prominent Ukrainian politician and former speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, was fatally shot in Lviv on August 30, 2025.
The attack occurred around noon in the Sykhiv district, where Parubiy was approached by an assailant disguised as a food delivery driver.
The gunman fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene on an electric bicycle. Parubiy, aged 54, was pronounced dead at the scene .
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the assassination as a “horrendous murder” and expressed condolences to Parubiy’s family.
A special operation, codenamed “Siren,” has been launched to apprehend the suspect .
Parubiy was a key figure in Ukraine’s 2013–2014 Euromaidan protests, which led to the ousting of pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych.
He served as the secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council and as speaker of parliament from 2016 to 2019.
At the time of his death, he was a member of the “European Solidarity” party .
Authorities are investigating all possible motives for the attack, including potential links to Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.
The killing has raised concerns about targeted violence against pro-Ukrainian figures amid the conflict .
The assassination has drawn international attention, with foreign ministers from European Union countries meeting in Copenhagen to discuss measures to increase pressure on Moscow to end its war against Ukraine.
Parubiy’s death marks a significant loss for Ukraine, as he was widely regarded as a patriot and a staunch advocate for the country’s sovereignty and independence.
