Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has directed the immediate renovation of the Rivers State Secretariat Complex following a fire outbreak that occurred on Monday.
The governor, who visited the secretariat on Tuesday morning to assess the level of damage, expressed gratitude that no lives were lost and commended the quick response of the State Fire Service, which helped to contain the situation.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Governor Fubara described the incident as a wake-up call to embark on a comprehensive renovation of the secretariat without delay.
“This is a wake-up call to begin full renovation of our Secretariat immediately,” he stated. “I commend our fire service for their swift response to the incident and appreciate our civil servants for their dedication as we all continue to work to uplift Rivers people.”
He assured that his administration remains committed to improving the work environment for civil servants, noting that a functional and safe secretariat is essential for efficient public service delivery.
The governor also used the opportunity to reiterate his administration’s focus on prioritizing the welfare of workers and providing the necessary tools and infrastructure to enhance productivity across ministries and agencies.
The fire incident, which affected parts of the secretariat complex in Port Harcourt, was promptly brought under control by the State Fire Service before it could spread to other sections of the building.
