Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara has commended the people of Isin for resisting an early morning attack by armed bandits, which resulted in the elimination of some of the hoodlums.
Report has it that the armed attack resulted in the death of three members of Eleyin village in Isin Local Government Area, including a member of the vigilante group.
In a statement by Rafiu Ajakaiye, his chief press secretary, on Saturday, Mr Abdulrazaq commended the bravery of the villagers who mounted a resistance against the bandits.
“The community’s action against the criminals is consistent with their right to live without fear or intimidation at all times.
“In addition to our support for the security agencies, I assure our communities of continuous support to resist violent attacks.
“I therefore commend the bravery of the Isin and Irepodun vigilantes who mounted a spirited resistance against the criminals.
“I also send my heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr Saheed Adeshina, who succumbed to the injuries in the encounter,” Mr Abdulrazaq said.
The governor also approved a N10 million financial support for the family of the dead vigilante, commending his bravery and commitment to the community.
Also, Mr Abdulrazaq said the reported mass neutralisation of the criminals was a bold statement that Kwara residents would not accept further provocation.
The governor promised to replace the motorcycles lost in the encounter and double its logistic support for security agencies and vigilantes.
“As we mount this bold resistance in moral courage against criminality, I urge that we strike the right balance so that we do not further undermine our collective well-being, which violent protests may amount to.
“Together, we will ensure that our communities are rid of all criminal elements as security forces work with local vigilantes to strengthen public safety,” Mr Abdulrazaq stated.
