The State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has inaugurated a reconciliation committee to address the lingering issues between the United Methodist Church of Nigeria and the Global Methodist Church of Nigeria.
The inauguration took place at the Exco chamber TY Danjuma House Jalingo.
In his remarks, Governor Kefas charged members of the committee to carefully examine the major areas of concern between the two churches with a view to finding lasting solutions to the dispute.
He pointed out that his administration is deeply committed to maintaining peace and harmony in the state, stressing that he is ready to commit his personal resources to ensure reconciliation and lasting peace between the two Christian bodies.
He assured both churches that justice would be served fairly, urging all parties involved to cooperate with the committee in the interest of unity and stability.
The Governor also warned individuals or groups issuing threats or attempting to disrupt the peace of the state to desist immediately or face the full weight of the law.
Speaking on behalf of the chairman of the committee, Rev Iroh Aliyuda, expressed appreciation to the Governor for the confidence reposed in them.
He assured that members of the committee would carry out the assignment with diligence and fairness, pledging to put in their best efforts to resolve the issues between the two churches.
