Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State is set to participate in a high-level international workshop on strategic governance and institutional resilience at Coventry University in the United Kingdom.
The two-day workshop, scheduled for March 30 and 31, 2026, is organised by the university’s Centre for Resilient Business and Society and supported under the United Kingdom Research and Innovation Institutional Support framework.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala-Idris, the engagement forms part of the administration’s broader efforts to strengthen governance and institutional capacity in Zamfara State through research-driven approaches.
Mr Idris said Governor Lawal would depart for the United Kingdom on Sunday to join global scholars, policymakers and governance experts at the workshop, which is expected to explore practical strategies for building resilient institutions and addressing complex societal challenges.
He noted that the sessions will cover key areas such as resilient leadership in resource-constrained environments, financial resilience, public sector innovation, change management, and ethical data use in governance.
The governor will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, special advisers, and the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency.
As part of the programme, Governor Lawal and his team are also scheduled to engage postgraduate researchers in an interactive session themed: “The Role of Research in Policymaking: Driving Strategic and Resilient Governance – Lessons from the Six-Point Rescue Agenda.”
The session, according to the statement, will provide an avenue for discussions on how academic research can be translated into practical policy decisions with measurable impact, drawing from Zamfara State’s development framework.
Mr Idris added that the state’s participation underscores its commitment to integrating data and research into governance processes, particularly in advancing its Six-Point Rescue Agenda, which focuses on security and peacebuilding, agriculture, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.
He emphasised that the collaboration with international institutions reflects a shared goal of promoting sustainable development and strengthening public sector performance in Zamfara State.
