Student leaders from 19 Northern States of Nigeria have declared their unwillingness to participate in the impending proposed protest by some sections of Nigerians in response to the rising cost of good and Nigeria’s economic difficulties.
According to the student leaders, patience and caution were needed and required if Nigeria is to reap the results of the massive vision and radical policy drives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The student leaders made this known on Thursday when it converged in Abuja in a show of support for the president. The leader of the group, Comrade Abdullateef Babapupa said Nigeria stands at a cross road and clear headedness and love for country should prevail.
Babapupa said, “The chairmen and leaders of the 19 Northern Student Union, urge all students to reject any form of protest and instead embrace dialogue. The recent calls for protest are orchestrated by unknown individuals who seek to undermine democracy and national stability. Their true intentions are to incite looting, criminality, and violence, rather than addressing economic hardships.
“We stand in support of the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is working tirelessly to alleviate economic challenges. The government has implemented various initiatives, including a new minimum wage, student loans, and the National Youth Investment Program, demonstrating their commitment to supporting students and youth.
Speaking further, Babapupa called on Nigerian students in northern Nigeria and around the county to therefore shun the proposed protest, adding that any escalation in the situation could lead to devastating consequences whose repair and rebuilding would roll back policy and developmental gains by distracting direly needed public financial resources.
“We appeal to Nigerian students and patriotic citizens to disregard invitations to participate in anti-government protests. Let us unite behind the government we elected, the government that cares for us. Together, we can build a brighter future for Nigeria.
