Hunter Biden, the son of former US President Joe Biden, has agreed to be disbarred from practicing law in Washington, D.C.
This decision comes after he was found guilty of lying about his drug use when purchasing a firearm in 2018.
According to court records, Biden filed a sealed affidavit acknowledging his “consent to disbarment” on Tuesday.
His law license was initially suspended in June 2024 following his felony conviction in a Delaware federal court.
Biden’s troubles began when he was convicted of lying about his drug use while purchasing a firearm in 2018.
His father, then-President Joe Biden, granted him a sweeping pardon in December 2024, covering any offenses against the U.S. that Hunter Biden “has committed or may have committed” from Jan. 1, 2014, to Dec. 1, 2024.
The disbarment will become official if the D.C. Court of Appeals accepts the recommendation from a disciplinary agency, along with Biden’s own consent.
As of Wednesday morning, Biden’s status with the Washington, D.C., bar remains listed as “Temp Disciplinary Suspension.” He has been licensed to practice law in the nation’s capital since 2007.
