Prominent Nigerian journalist and politician, Dele Momodu, has written an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to take decisive action to address the country’s economic challenges and warning him against the dangers of sycophancy and reckless spending.
In the letter, Momodu states, “Nigeria is in big trouble. Our economy has virtually collapsed… You’ve been wasting too much money at a time that requires absolute frugality. Please, stop this reckless propensity for wasting scarce resources.”
Momodu, who is a member of the opposition, emphasises the need for performance over political patronage, advising the President to invest in vocational skills, local agriculture, and education, rather than distributing cash to politicians.
He also cautions the President against the influence of hero-worshippers at the National Assembly, urging him to listen to his friend, Senator Ali Ndume, and to enforce discipline and take action against those who publicly disrespect him, like Nyesom Wike.
The letter concludes with a warning: “There’s danger ahead. Beware of those hero-worshippers… who have turned you into God. Listen to your true friends.”
This development comes as Nigeria faces significant economic challenges, and President Tinubu’s administration has been criticized for its handling of the economy and other issues. Momodu’s letter is seen as a call to action for the President to change course and prioritize the needs of the country.
