The Imo State Police Command has debunked reports making the rounds that the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command otherwise known as “Tiger Base” is harvesting organs of suspects.
It also denied allegations that operatives are slaughtering, torturing, intimidating and forcefully obtaining huge sums of money from suspects.
While briefing newsmen and civil society organisations on Friday at the premises of the unit, the Command’s spokesman, DSP Henry Okoye and the Anti-kidnapping Commander, ACP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, vehemently denied the allegations.
The officers maintained that no armed robbery , kidnap or terrorism suspects were tortured, intimidated or have their organs harvested.
He said they get needed information from them without molesting anyone.
On the issue of having shrine where they get their powers, they pointed at the heap of exhibits recovered from members of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) and other criminal elements, made up of fetish objects.
DSP Okoye seized the opportunity afforded by the facility tour to inform the public that an additional unit, the Human Rights Unit has been established in the premises of the Tiger Base where members of the public who may be agrieved or have one complaint or the other.
