The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the official conclusion of the first phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. This phase will end on Tuesday, 10 December 2025.
In a statement signed by Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, Director of Voter Education and Publicity, the Commission noted that the exercise, which commenced with online pre-registration on 18 August 2025 and in-person registration on 25 August 2025, has seen significant participation across the country.
The Commission indicated that a vital statutory phase will follow. In accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, INEC will display the preliminary register of new voters for public claims and objections from Monday, 15 December to Sunday, 21 December 2025.
The display will occur at all 774 Local Government Area offices and state offices where the registration took place. INEC strongly encourages all citizens who registered, updated their details, or applied for a transfer during the recently concluded phase to visit these centres to verify their information.
“The Commission urges all eligible citizens… to utilise this statutory window to check their details, report inaccuracies, and highlight any ineligible or deceased individuals on the register,” the statement read. It stressed that public participation is “crucial to safeguarding the integrity of the Register of Voters.”
Providing a mid-exercise update, INEC revealed that by the end of the 13th week (28 November 2025), it had received 9,891,801 online pre-registrations nationwide. From this total, 2,572,054 registrations have been fully completed, consisting of 1,503,832 applicants who finished their process online and 1,068,222 who registered in person at INEC offices.
The Commission noted that the CVR remains suspended in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) due to ongoing electoral activities. New dates for resumption in these areas will be announced later.
INEC confirmed that the second phase of the CVR exercise will resume as scheduled on 5 January 2026, in line with its previously published timeline.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a credible and transparent voter register and requested the continued cooperation of the public in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.
