ABUJA – The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order suspending the upcoming National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The injunction, granted on Friday mandates an immediate halt to the convention proceedings until the party complies with a key directive: allowing former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, the opportunity to participate in the chairmanship race.
The court ruled that the PDP must afford Lamido the chance to purchase the party’s nomination form for the national chairmanship position, undergo the required screening process, and be officially cleared to contest.
Furthermore, the court has barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from monitoring or recognizing any convention held by the PDP until the party fully obeys this order. This adds a layer of legal gravity to the ruling, as INEC’s oversight is a statutory requirement for the validity of such party congresses
