The Indigenous People of Biafra has announced the permanent cancellation of the Monday sit at home order across the South East, with effect from Monday February 9 2026.
The group said the directive was issued by its leader Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who instructed residents of the region to resume normal activities without fear or intimidation.
In a statement released by IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful the group said all markets schools offices transport services and other economic activities are to operate fully and normally henceforth.
The statement warned that any individual or group attempting to enforce a sit at home order would be acting contrary to Kanu’s directive and against the interests of the Biafran struggle.
IPOB also raised concerns over possible false flag operations and acts of intimidation by opponents and urged residents to remain calm vigilant and law abiding while going about their lawful businesses.
The group further stated that no state governor has the authority to threaten or shut down the businesses of traders who choose to operate lawfully. It added that any decision on market renovation or relocation must involve the consent of stakeholders and the provision of alternative trading spaces before such actions are taken.
IPOB called on parents to ensure their children return to school and urged residents of the South East to embrace unity peace and lawful conduct as the region returns to normal economic and social life.
The announcement brings to an end a long running weekly shutdown that has disrupted commercial educational and social activities across the South East for several years.
