A prominent figure in Kogi State, Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, has condemned the arrest of Comrade Usman Okai Austin by agents of the Kogi State Government.
In a statement released on February 26, 2025, Ajaka expressed profound concern and indignation over the incident, which he described as a blatant disregard for due process and human rights.
According to Ajaka, the authorities have failed to disclose the location to which Austin has been taken or the charges, if any, for which he has been detained.
This lack of transparency has raised concerns about the safety and well-being of Austin, who was abducted from his home earlier today.
Ajaka drew parallels between the current administration’s actions and those of the previous government under Governor Yahaya Bello, which was notorious for its human rights abuses.
He warned that the use of unlawful force to oppress and silence critics is a dangerous path that undermines democracy and human rights.
The statement called for the immediate release of Comrade Usman Austin Okai and demanded that the government ensure that all actions taken are in accordance with the rule of law.
Ajaka also emphasised the need for accountability, stating that those responsible for the abduction should face the appropriate consequences.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for the Kogi State Government to respect the rights and freedoms of its citizens.
The abduction of Comrade Usman Austin Okai has raised concerns about the deteriorating human rights situation in Kogi State and the need for urgent action to address these issues.
