Kogi Governor Disburses ₦3b to Communities Under Climate Resilience Project

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State on Monday disbursed ₦3 billion to over 2,381 beneficiaries across 170 groups in 80 communities affected by climate change.

The funds, provided under the Community Revolving Fund of the Agro-climate Resilience in Semi-arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project, are part of a partnership with the World Bank.

The announcement was made in a statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah. At the cheque presentation ceremony held at the Government House in Lokoja, Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting food security and sustainable agricultural practices in the state.

“This initiative underscores our dedication to sustainable development and climate resilience,” the governor said.

“It aligns with our vision of ensuring long-term frameworks for integrated landscape management and effective agricultural practices across the state’s 21 local government areas.”

Governor Ododo also lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s prioritization of sustainable agriculture, noting its impact on improving the welfare of Nigerian families.

The Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Engineer Joseph Oluwasegun, highlighted the significance of the revolving fund in positioning Kogi as a state where food security is a reality.

The governor urged beneficiaries to utilize the funds judiciously, ensuring continuity of benefits for other community members.

Barrister Ladi Ahmed Jatto, the State Coordinator of ACReSAL, emphasized the fund’s interest-free nature and its success since the initial disbursement in June 2024.

“This second phase reflects the effective utilization of the first phase and the commendable performance of the state government, as assessed by the World Bank Task Team,” she stated.

She reminded beneficiaries that the fund is a loan backed by the state government’s guarantee, stressing the importance of its prudent use for long-term impact.
