Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reiterated his commitment to tackling insecurity, mineral exploitation, infrastructure, and broader socio-economic challenges in Okunland.

He stated this today during a meeting with the Okun Development Association (ODA) at the Government House.

Governor Ododo emphasized that the meeting was convened to address the rising wave of insecurity affecting Okun communities and other parts of the state. He noted that the stakeholders jointly examined the root causes of criminal activities, including unemployment, exposure to illegal mining, and divisions along ethnic and religious lines.

“We have been so divided along ethnicity and religious lines. We said enough is enough. We are coming together to protect the gifts God has given us,” he said. “We will not bow, we will not negotiate, and we will not pay ransom. We will continue to sensitize our people to remain vigilant. And you can see we are winning the war.”

The President of ODA, Ambassador Akenson Rotimi, expressed his support for Governor Ododo’s administration, praising his efforts to improve infrastructure, healthcare, and education in the state. He commended the Governor for establishing Kogi State University in Kabba and appealed for more support for Okun sons and daughters in government positions.

The ODA announced the establishment of the Okun Security Trust Fund to support security agencies and urged the state government to empower Community Development Associations (CDAs) to foster collaboration between formal and informal security structures.

The Chairman of Yagba East Local Government Area, Hon. (Dr.) Dare Joshua Monday, has expressed deep appreciation to His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for the remarkable work his administration is delivering across the state. He also thanked the Governor for hosting the ODA and pledged to complement the state government’s efforts in tackling insecurity and safeguarding the lives and property of the people.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment from both parties to tackle insecurity, improve infrastructure, and harness the vast mineral and human resources of Okunland for sustainable development.

Governor Ododo was formally appointed as the Patron of the Okun Development Association, reflecting his commitment to the development of Okunland.
