Kogi State Government Commences On-the-Job Training for Government House Staff

The Kogi State Government has commenced a comprehensive On-the-Job Training program for the staff of the Government House, as part of its efforts to digitize the civil service and enhance good governance. The training, which was flagged off on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the Government House, Lokoja is aimed at equipping staff with the necessary skills and knowledge to improve their performance and efficiency.

The Director General of Government House Administration, Adm. Umaru Oricha Shuaibu, Ph.D, FCIA, emphasized the importance of On-the-Job Training in his opening remarks. According to him, “Training refers to the process of teaching or developing skills, knowledge, or behaviors in individuals or groups. It involves instructions which guide learners through new concepts or skills, and gives room for practice which provides opportunities to apply what has been learned.”

Adm. Shuaibu highlighted the benefits of On-the-Job Training, including practical application, reduced theory gap, and improved retention. He also expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for approving and releasing funds for the training, saying, “We need to appreciate God Almighty in the first instance for this on-the-job training programme we just organized. I believe that after this programme, workers will not remain the same again, there will be a change of mindset and change of approach to Civil Service rules and regulations.” He said.

The training, which is themed “Strategy and Strategic Management in Civil Service and its Benefits,” will cover key areas such as Administrative Officers, Accounting Officers, Executive Officers, Engineers, Nurses & Medical Officers and Clerical Officers from the Government House, the Deputy Governor Office and Office of the First Lady of Kogi State.

The training will also focus on important topics such as Oath of Secrecy, Communication, Strategy and Strategic Planning, and Stress Management.

The Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Barr. Muhammad Tanko Musa, commended the Director General of Government House Administration for organizing the training, saying, “Training makes way for continuity in Civil Services. Training must be encouraged at all levels. Without human beings, the civil service cannot exist; therefore, strategy and strategic planning are key to Civil Service.”

Okeme Abdullahi Jubrail, in his goodwill message also appreciated the Director General of Government House administration for the training, noting that the state government under the current dispensation is lucky to have such a comprehensive training programme. He emphasized the importance of aligning strategies and planning with government policies and programs.

Additionally, the Director of Administration Pastor Mrs Praise Akubo appreciated the Director General of Government House Administration for the the Training she also commended Director of Training Mr. Olutimehin Gbenga Taiye and the entire staff of Government House for their organisation during the Training

The training is expected to enhance the performance and efficiency of the Government House staff, and ultimately contribute to the overall development of Kogi State.
