The Provost, College of Agriculture Science and Technology Jalingo, Dr. Yakubu Ali Garjila, has disclose that lack of tractors, buses and other farm implements are the major challenges facing the college and appeal to the state Governor for consideration.
He made the disclosure during the matriculation ceremony of the newly admited students for 2024/ 2025 academic sessions held at the college in Jalingo.
“We plead with His Excellencey, Governor Dr Agbu Kefas to magnanimously allocate some tractors, buses and other farm implements to the college, as doing so will enable the college cover the practical requirements in Agricultural Engineering and Bio – Environmental, Agricultural Technology and equally encourage internally generated revenue for the college.
“Sir, this gesture of yours will continue to show your interest in the advancement of Agricultural Education in the state, if giving to us.
“We in the college will ensure judicious use of the tractors, buses and other equipments to accomplish the purpose for which they are allocated for – he said.
According to him, it is a tradition in Institutions of higher learning to matriculate new students into their actual programs to encourage, get them acquainted with the environment and sensitized them to be serious with their studies.
“While congratulating you the matriculating students, I wish to inform you that the Academic gowns you are wearing are big challenges, I please ask you to work hard in order to make the college proud of you, by passing your examinations and being a good ambassadors of the college.
The Provost assured parents, guardian and students that the college is determined to uphold, protect and ensure the peaceful stay of all students in the college.
“The College of Agriculture Science and Technology Jalingo, is a Technical and Vocational Institution that it’s vision is to be one of the leading Colleges of Agriculture globally which can provide courses of studies, training and research in all branches of Agriculture as well as providing leadership in Agriculture and natural ecosystem, thereby improving the lives of individuals and communities.
He added that the mission of the college is to be committed to teachings, training, research and extension work that make difference in the lives of stakeholders in the State, Nation and the World at large.
“You should be focused on your mission here in the college, study hard and graduate with good grades because you are admitted into the college base on merit.
He reveal that with the state government’s assistance, the college was able to host the accreditation team of the National Board for Technical Education NBTE and that the outcome was that all the Eleven programs were accredited by the Board.
“After hosting a team of officers from the Tertiary Education Fund TETFUND from Abuja, in January this year, I am glad to inform the gathering that the college has been listed as one of the TETFUND beneficiary.
Dr. Garjila use the medium to call on the state government, governorning council of the college, ministries to give the college the necessary support it deserve, adding that the college has suffered a great deal following the delisting of some educational institutions tagged “monotechnic” since 2011.
He mentioned some polytechnics that are affiliated with the college to include, Jehovah Jireh polytechnic, Appawa, Lau local government and Almora polytechnic, Pantisawa, Yorro local government.
There were goodwill messages from the Head of Service Dr. Hamidu Ahmed Kara amongst others. A total of 922 students matriculated during the ceremony.
