Lagos Lawmaker Provides Free Eyeglasses to 750 Constituents

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Temitope Adewale, on Wednesday, carried out an eye test and provided recommended eyeglasses to no fewer than 750 members of his constituency.

Mr Adewale, representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency I in the Lagos Assembly, distributed the prescribed glasses to Ifako-Ijaiye residents during the third edition of his Health and Wellness Initiative.

The three-day programme, tagged JIGI-JAH 3.0, is a free eye care outreach under the Adewale Temitope Adedeji Health and Wellness Initiative.

The lawmaker said the aim of the initiative was to enhance the quality of life for the people.

He expressed his commitment to giving hope to members of his constituency in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He added that the event was part of his health initiative aimed at providing free healthcare services to his constituents.

Mr Adewale said the health initiative includes free health care insurance, free screening, and treatment.

“We have the free screening, and free treatment that we give to our people, we also have the test for hypertension, and HIV and other ailments.

“So far, no fewer than 1,250 people have received free eyeglasses and 3,500 have received health insurance since the beginning of the initiative.

“These are what we do for them in our community, and we have not stopped, and we won’t stop,” he said.

The lawmaker advised residents to prioritise their health, stressing it is crucial for a long and healthy life.

He also urged his constituents to take advantage of the services being offered through the initiative.

“It is important to stay healthy and take good care of your health.

“We’ll continue to give our best to you, to ensure we represent you and give back to you the dividends of democracy,” he said.

Earlier, the Programme Coordinator of Omodada Foundation, Miss Adenine Adebayo, described the initiative as a community project that benefits everyone, regardless of age or political affiliation.

Adebayo said the programme was designed to support the lawmaker’s constituency, while ensuring everyone who needed eyeglasses received them, without segregation.

“Since the programme began in 2023, it has benefited both younger children and older generations, with no age restrictions.

“This initiative is open to all, and it’s not limited to members of a particular party, but rather an outreach programme for the entire community.

The beneficiaries took turns to applaud the lawmaker for providing effective representation, making life better for constituents.

Speaking, Gbenga Agoye, APC auditor in Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1, said the party made the right choice by fielding Adewale in previous elections.

Mr Agoye commended the lawmaker for his selfless act, describing it as a demonstration of his love and passion for the people.

He noted that the initiative was not political, but rather a way of giving back to society.

Mr Agoye said the beneficiaries were selected based on need rather than political affiliation.

“The initiative is not limited to a specific age group or political affiliation, and anyone with an eye problem is eligible to benefit,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries, Sidikat Atoro, who expressed gratitude for the kind gesture, said the lawmaker had brought succour to those who could not visit the hospital due to lack of funds.

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude for this wonderful gesture. This is a blessing from God, and I pray that He will continue to bless the lawmaker and give him the strength to keep serving the people,” she said.

Medications for various eye conditions were distributed to the beneficiaries.

The three-day programme continues on Thursday and Friday.
