The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 48-year-old man identified as Emmanuel George for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl in Port Harcourt.
The incident took place on September 6 at Mini Orlu, off Ada-George Road, where the young girl was staying with her aunt during a holiday. She was returning from an errand when she was reportedly attacked.
George, who is from Akwa Ibom but resides in Port Harcourt, allegedly lured the girl into a stationary tricycle and assaulted her after restraining her. The victim’s hands were tied, and her mouth was covered to stop her from calling for help.
Following a distress call, operatives of the CP Strike Force moved quickly to the location and rushed the girl to the Police Hospital for medical care. Later that night, around 10 p.m., the suspect was tracked and arrested through intelligence gathering.
Police operatives recovered items from the scene, including the rope believed to have been used on the victim, a meal pack, and the blue tricycle linked to the attack. George was said to have admitted to the crime and is currently in custody while further investigation continues.
The Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, assured that the command remains committed to ensuring offenders face justice and urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant over their children.
