A 76-year-old man remains in custody following a suspected poisoning incident at a children’s summer camp in Stathern, Leicestershire.
The man was arrested on Monday evening at a local pub on suspicion of administering poison or a harmful substance with the intention to harm or upset others.
Police revealed that the incident actually occurred on Sunday, not Monday as initially reported.
Eight children and one adult were taken to hospital after the suspected poisoning.
A triage centre was quickly set up at a nearby village hall, and the children were later discharged after receiving precautionary treatment.
The adult, who was also hospitalised as a precaution, has since returned home.
The East Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that it received an emergency call around 4pm on Monday, reporting a medical situation at a property in Plungar, Nottinghamshire—just a few miles from Stathern.
In response, ten ambulances, air ambulance staff, and paramedics were sent to the scene.
There has been some confusion about the timing of the incident, leading Leicestershire Police to refer itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for review.
Officers initially stated the event took place on Monday but later corrected this to Sunday. It is still not clear when the police first responded.
Parents and guardians of the affected children have all been contacted.
The investigation is still ongoing, with authorities carefully examining the circumstances surrounding the case. Updates will be shared with the public as more information becomes available.
