Performing the official launch of the projects, Goronyo reiterated the federal government’s commitment to providing quality infrastructure that would improve the living conditions of the Nigerian people, through well thought out and strategically delivered projects.

The Minister and the MD/CEO thereafter led other dignitaries and stakeholders to commission the about 58km Sokoto – Ilela Road, recently rehabilitated by FERMA, linking Sokoto to border town on the Nigeria-Niger Republic border.

According to the Minister, the projects are very strategic because of the fact that the road fixed with the street lights is both an entry point for travellers to Sokoto through the Airport, and that Sokoto is the coordinating nerve centre of the adjoining states of Zamfara and Kebbi, while the road project is capable huge employment opportunities, even as they are both capable of improving the socio-economic lives of the people and curbing threats of insecurity.

In a statement signed by Mohammed A. Ahmed, the Director, Press and Public Relations in the ministry, Goronyo described the project as aligning with the vision of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He congratulated the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and communities along the corridor for having the streetlights, urging them to take ownership of the project and full advantage of the inherent opportunities.

Noting that the palliative works were done through taxpayers’ money, the Minister warned that warned road users, especially those with articulated vehicles against damaging the road, saying anyone found wanting would pay for it.

In the same vein, the Managing Director/CEO, Federal Road Management Agency (FERMA), Engr Chukwuemeka Agbasi, in his remarks highlighted the strategic importance of the projects to the socio-economic lives of the people.
