The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has commended President Bola Tinubu and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for facilitating the temporary bail granted to former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, to enable him to attend his mother’s funeral.
In a statement issued on Saturday, MURIC’s Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, expressed condolences to the former governor, his son Bello El-Rufai, and the entire El-Rufai family. He also extended the group’s appreciation to the federal government, particularly President Tinubu and the NSA, for their intervention.
Hajiya Ummah El-Rufai, mother of the former governor, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026. MURIC offered prayers for the deceased, asking Allah to forgive her and grant her Aljannah Firdaus.
“We thank Almighty Allah for the life of our mother, Hajiya Ummah El-Rufai,” the statement read. “Character is either inborn or instilled and cultivated. The physical resemblance between mother and son is a strong pointer to where the son inherited his high-level principles.”
The group urged the family to find comfort in their loss, adding, “To the El-Rufai family and friends, let us take solace in the fact that it was El-Rufai’s mother who died, not the son and not the grandson. We have every cause to thank Allah for His divine mercy. It means there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
MURIC drew parallels with past instances where prominent figures were unable to attend their parents’ funerals due to detention, noting what it described as a positive shift. “We know what happened in other climes. The late President Muhammadu Buhari could not attend his mother’s funeral because he was in detention. Neither could Sambo Dasuki 35 years later for the same reason,” the group stated.
Concluding, MURIC remarked, “A human face has been added to embellish the corridor of justice in Nigeria.”
