In a bid to rescue and return Nigerian children trafficked to Côte d’Ivoire,
activist and social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, human rights lawyer Barrister Deji Adeyanju, and the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Hajiya Binta Adamu Bello, have held a crucial meeting.
Also in attendance at the meeting are the Chairman of NAPTIP’s board, Comrade Mustapha Salihu, and other board members.
The children were allegedly sold for sexual exploitation and other inhumane purposes.
Hajiya Binta Adamu Bello expressed compassion and empathy, which according to her “is not just as the DG of NAPTIP but also as a mother who has birthed children and knows what it really means to be a mother”.
The meeting yielded positive results, with plans put in place to reunite the children with their families. Efforts are also being made to help other trafficked persons affected by this evil movement.
NAPTIP’s efforts to address human trafficking align with Nigeria’s legal framework, which aims to protect citizens’ rights and safety.
The agency’s work is crucial in promoting social cohesion and combating hate speech and fake news.
This development highlights the importance of collaboration between activists, human rights lawyers, and government agencies in tackling complex issues like human trafficking.
As the situation unfolds, it is essential to prioritise the well-being and safety of the victims and their families.
