The Nasarawa State Government has welcomed the landmark Supreme Court judgment granting autonomy to local governments. In a press statement, the Honourable Attorney-General of Nasarawa State, Labaran Shuaibu Magaji Esq, expressed profound appreciation for the decision, calling it a significant milestone in the evolution of democracy and good governance.
“This judgment marks a significant milestone in the evolution of our democracy and the protection of local government funds from undue interference,” Magaji said. “The democratic setup at the local government level, as well as the non-tampering with local government funds, which characterized our government, will ensure that resources meant for grassroots development are utilized for the benefit of our people.”
The Attorney-General noted that the autonomy granted to local governments will enhance the democratic setup at the grassroots level, empower local authorities, and lead to greater efficiency, improved service delivery, and increased development.
The Nasarawa State Government has pledged to support and implement the judgment, ensuring that local governments operate independently, transparently, and accountably. The government calls on all stakeholders to support the judgment and work together to harness its positive effects for the benefit of the communities.
“This decision reinforces the principles of federalism and strengthens the foundation of our democratic system,” Magaji added. “Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive, and prosperous Nasarawa State.”
